Does one seek inspiration within the remote environs of Canada or is inspiration a result of being there? This is a question that could be asked of Doug Folkins. Or perhaps it is a coastal thing. Living so close to the edge of the immense landscape of this country, which this prolific singer/songwriter has done from both sides, will have lasting effects. Born and raised in New Brunswick but transplanted to Vancouver Island in 1994, Doug has brought with him a pan-Canadian musical vibe. His earlier work had a distinct East Coast flare but the West soon made its mark on his music. All along however he has maintained a clear voice and style deeply rooted in pop.
With the remoteness of the upper Vancouver Island lifestyle comes a fierce sense of independence. Since 2000, Doug Folkins has been writing, producing, marketing and promoting his own material and with most certain success. In the time that many artists might have put together a single project Doug has completed four releases. How does he make it all happen so proficiently? Doug would most certainly nod warmly toward the talent and support by which he is surrounded.
