The Mellow Side Arts Lounge & Cafe provided the perfect atmosphere for Kevin Mitchell’s music.
Kevin started the show laying down some funky syncopated rhythms on his acoustic guitar. He kept the energy up for the whole first set.
The highlight of the show was when he played his mandolin. Mixing traditional phrases with his original improvisational style, a flurry of notes where projected throughout the room, displaying a mastery of the instrument.
His lyrics are evocative and express an innocence that is suited to his vocal style. Such as, his touching ballad dedicated to his mother expressing regret for not calling home more.

Allison Brown with Hornby Island's Melisa Devost!
DUNCAN GARAGE SHOWROOM - March 9th
Singer/Songwriters Melisa Devost & Allison Brown performed a double bill concert on March 9th at the Duncan Garage Showroom. Performing blues, gospel, ballads, and original folk music.
Allison performed a few of her original compositions that she if presently recording on Salt Spring Island with Folk/Blues legend David Essig.
Allison has a voice that is sweeter than the nectar of the magnolia flower. She has obviously been studying traditional folk/roots music for some time and it shows in her music repertoire.
Melisa Devost impressed me by her strong vocal ability with great guitar chops. This is an uncommon combination with most singer/songwriters. I am looking forward of hearing more from Melisa in the future.
