Their Live Studio Recording, In the Queen’s Basement, is truly one of those CD’s that grab you from beginning to end. With traditional songs like Molly and Sean Ryan’s Polka made completely their own, to a song like Fields of Marrakesh which evokes such mood and creates so many visuals.
Vancouver Island based the Versions have been together since early 2004. In that time band members Ryan Boldt, Bass, Guitar, Dobro, Banjo, Robin Ramalho, Drums, Percussion, Sounds, Ari Jonsson, Guitar, Violin, Piano and Malcolm Jonsson on Guitar, Percussion and Violin have compiled a repertoire of songs that take traditional perspectives to another level.
A true world feel with infusions of classical and traditional roots, world beats and rhythms, peppered with elements of jazz, pop, rock and a funkedelic groove based sound that is passionate as well as intricate and musically complex.

Song of David totally floored me when I found out there were only four instruments playing simultaneously and no overdubs, it sounds so big. The band rounds their first recording off with beautiful sounds that make songs like Speech and Martha’s Still Queen reminiscent of old school bands like Pink Floyd. Oh ya, they also have the coolest version of a tango I’ve ever heard. If you have the opportunity to catch this very unique sounding band, do your self the favour.
